The entire project ended up taking around 80 hours to complete. The client sourced the wood boards which were high quality, untreated, and had as few knots as possible. There were still some knots which needed to be considered when placing the design. Transfer paper was used to apply the stencil for the lettering but the pine tree design was freehanded with a pencil.

After the design was applied the boards were burned individually to make it easier to handle the boards as they were quite large. The burning is quite a labor-intensive task and a mask was worn to avoid smoke inhalation. The wood must be untreated to avoid inhaling any toxic chemicals.

After completing the outline and trunk of the pine tree, the resin was mixed and applied. This gives the color necessary for the design and has a stained glass-like look to it.

After all the burning is complete the wood gets sealed with a varnish to preserve it for as long as possible and prevent any weathering from the elements.
